Laminol® Acid Gas Treatment for SkyNRG’s SAF Plant in Delfzijl

Green Gas & Liquids BV has won a contract to engineer, procure, and supply an acid gas treatment unit for SkyNRG’s sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production facility in Delfzijl, the Netherlands. The unit runs on GGL’s Laminol® technology. Technip Energies is executing the wider project.

This is one of GGL’s more technically demanding assignments to date. It puts the company’s gas treatment expertise inside a facility built to help decarbonize aviation — one of the harder sectors to clean up.

Why acid gas treatment matters for SAF production in Delfzijl

Producing sustainable aviation fuel involves feedstocks that generate hydrogen sulphide (H₂S) and other acid gas components as by-products. Left untreated, these compounds corrode equipment and create safety risks. They also compromise the purity of process streams downstream. Acid gas treatment is not a peripheral utility system. It is a condition for the plant to run safely and continuously at full capacity.

Laminol® is GGL’s regenerative H₂S removal system. It handles variable sulphur loads reliably, so operators don’t need to tune their process to a fixed load profile. Feedstock composition can vary at a facility like SkyNRG’s. That flexibility is a practical requirement, not a marketing point.

GGL’s role in the project

GGL’s scope covers the engineering, procurement, and supply of the Laminol® acid gas treatment unit. Technip Energies is executing the project for SkyNRG. This places GGL’s equipment within a larger EPC delivery structure, managed by an established international contractor.

Working inside a Technip Energies-led delivery framework raises the bar for GGL’s design and documentation processes. Large-scale EPC execution demands rigorous standards throughout. This project gives GGL a strong proof point: the company can operate as an equipment supplier within complex, multi-party industrial projects — not only as a standalone technology vendor.

Decarbonizing aviation, one plant at a time

Sustainable aviation fuel offers one of the few realistic near-term levers for cutting aviation’s carbon footprint. Facilities like the one under construction in Delfzijl turn that shift from a policy target into physical infrastructure. GGL’s role in this project reflects a broader direction for the company: applying gas treatment technology, originally developed for biogas and CO₂ capture, to adjacent industries with similar separation and purification challenges.

The Delfzijl project adds to GGL’s track record of technically demanding installations. It joins reference sites such as DES Sirjansland and the Merschl Gartenbau greenhouse project in Vienna.
